A Case History
Interested In Saving Time and Money?
"When I switched to AQUA-SHIELD WB I reduced my oven temperature from 350° F to 270°F, and bumped my production line from 4 feet per minute to 8 feet per minute! Now that's some savings."
Those are words from the Operations Manager of an agricultural lawn & garden equipment manufacturer, who recently switched from another water-based paint to AQUA-SHIELD WB. They experienced a large cost savings in fuel when they reduced their baking temperature from 350° F to 270° F. The lower temperature and lower cross-linking temperature of the WB formulation also allowed the steel parts to cool faster so they could be stacked quicker. The company was able to increase their production line speed to 8 feet per minute from 4 feet per minute as a result.

Water-Based Doesn't Mean Higher Costs!
When a major manufacturer of steel posts moved into a community with strict emission laws, they realized they would have to evaluate water-based coatings. Their goal was to switch to a water-based coating without raising costs over the solvent based paints they had been using.
They accomplished their goal by using an AQUA-SHIELD WA custom formulation supplied by Watson Coatings. The coating, when applied to the steel by a dip process on an automated conveyor system has a 120° F force cure, and in just 15 minutes is ready to be stacked, banded, and shipped. All this in an environmentally friendly coating and at the same cost per ton of steel as a solvent-based coating.

AQUA-SHIELD WSR ... The Only Choice For Gas Cylinders
"We can't really compare AQUA-SHIELD to other coatings", says Tony Haring of Haring Company in Harrison, Ohio. "There is no other product like it. We get product when we need it, because Watson is committed to the cylinder industry. They stock all the colors we need. We also got rid of solvent needed for thinning and clean-up, and got away from flammability issues altogether by switching to water-based paint."
As a hydro-tester, Haring uses a lot of paint, and they don't trust anything else but AQUA-SHIELD WSR from Watson Coatings.

ARMOR-SHIELD ... Bridging The Way To The Future
In 1989, Missouri DOT agreed to do a test bridge with a calcium sulfonate product from Watson coatings. In 1992, Missouri DOT's painting program came to a standstill due to problems with open-air sandblasting of certain bridge structures containing lead. When reminded of the test bridge, the DOT inspected the bridges and realized they had a product that was going to solve several of their problems.
Advantages of ARMOR-SHIELD 8300
- Single Package
- Overcoat lead vs. Sandblasting
- Saves Clean-up
- Zero Waste
- Faster Dry-Time (compared to competitive and older products)
Watson's Calcium Sulfonate materials are specified in over 30 states and provinces.

1 coat AS236GQD over SSPC-SP7 (Sweep Blast) 12-15 mils wet, Coatings roller-applied to 2-3 mils dry film thickness. AS236QD is a calcium sulfonate coating system, modified for a fast, hard drying finish. The AS236QD system is a high build anti-corrosive coating, can be used in conjunction with AS8201 penetrant and AS236RQD primer or as a single coat system. Unlike coal tar or epoxy mastics, AS236 is easier to work with, has no odors or fumes and is less harsh on skin. AS236QD is a single package, no mixing errors and no potlife considerations. The AS236QD system is available in virtually any color and readily available in marine supply stores or directly through Watson Coatings. Watson Coatings has a long history of supply coatings to meet the requirements of the inland marine industry.
